Enrollment and Attendance FAQs
Who is eligible to attend Insight School of Wisconsin (ISWI)?
Any student in grades 9–12 who resides in Wisconsin and is 20 years old or younger on the first day of the school year* and who meets the definition of “at risk.”**
*Students who turn 21 while enrolled may remain enrolled until the end of the current school year. High school students must also be able to demonstrate completion of the eighth grade through official transcript or homeschool portfolios.
**State criteria for being At Risk Designated is taken from statutory language.
How many students are allowed to enroll at ISWI?
Students are admitted subject to capacity requirements.
What does it cost to attend ISWI?
Because ISWI is a public virtual school, there is no tuition. We provide Wisconsin-licensed teachers and instructional materials. Families are responsible for providing some common household materials (such as printer ink and paper). Our enrollment consultants can help address your technological and computer questions and needs.
What information is required for enrollment?
We are a school of choice, so enrollment documents include a District Release Form (sometimes called a “Choice Form”), which requires a signature from the resident school district and a legal guardian. We also require Proof of Residence including the name of a legal guardian on the student account and the physical address of the residence.
Proof of Residence documents we accept include:
- Utility bill (gas, water, cable, electric, phone land line)
- Car insurance statement
- Lease agreement
- Driver’s license
- Car registration
- Benefit assistance letters (food stamps, TANF, etc)
Can students enroll and begin classes at any time of the year?
Students can submit an enrollment application anytime during the year and, once approved, start at the next scheduled start date.
What is the attendance policy?
As Wisconsin public school students, all ISWI students must comply with the state-required minimum number of instructional hours.
Can our family take a vacation during the school year?
The school calendar includes school holidays or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. Parents are encouraged to contact their student’s teacher if they plan a vacation that does not coordinate with the school calendar.
If my student has been expelled from another school, can they enroll at ISWI?
Each case will be reviewed based on records from your current or former school district. As a Wisconsin public school, ISWI may honor current expulsions from another district. Approval for enrollment will not be granted until the case is reviewed.
