Letter From Our Executive Director

Dear Wisconsin Virtual Academy Families and Community,

Welcome to Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA)! Our mission is to provide an equitable opportunity for every student in our state by promising to support students through personalized learning—no matter where they are, who they are, or what they need.

Across Wisconsin, thousands of students find their way to us from different communities, circumstances, and educational experiences. They bring unique strengths, challenges, goals, and ideas about what school can be. Our responsibility is never to make students fit into a rigid model, but to build a flexible system capable of meeting each learner where they are.

At our schools, dedicated and state-licensed teachers keep students motivated, excited, and moving toward their goals. Our staff empowers students to think critically, succeed academically, and prepare for college, career, and life. Students participate in live Class Connect sessions to complete projects and collaborate, supported by a comprehensive K–12 curriculum, counselors, and support staff focused on each student’s Personalized Learning Plan.

We also recognize that continuous improvement requires listening and adapting. Whenever we encounter new technologies, platform changes, or unexpected challenges, our focus remains on looking honestly at what is working and what needs to evolve. We work through obstacles together alongside our students, families, and staff.

Beyond course academic success, we prioritize meaningful human connection. We offer year-round opportunities for socialization through statewide fall picnics, student-led interest clubs, and combined virtual and face-to-face experiences that help our families build strong community bonds.

We are committed to designing an educational experience that values personalization, student agency, digital fluency, flexible pathways, and real-world experiences beyond the screen. The future of public education requires us to keep questioning assumptions about where, when, and how learning happens. As a Wisconsin native, I believe in our motto: Forward. Together we will not recreate the systems that our students left behind but build something better.
