The Flex Program

At Insight School of Wisconsin (ISWI), we know every student learns differently, and families have busy, unique schedules. That’s what ISWI’s schedule takes into consideration. 

Since ISWI students are typically juggling school, work, family, and other responsibilities, the ISWI schedule runs from 8am to 12:05pm Monday-Thursday.  Students are in classes either Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday, or a combination of both depending on what their schedule will allow.  Additionally, study halls for additional support and homeroom meetings that provide future planning, an array of guest speakers, and other activities designed to help ISWI’s students to be prepared for life after high school are scheduled to still fit into the 12:05pm school day.  Finally, with each student taking a combination of both live and independent/asynchronous courses, students can earn credits faster and gain success with the help of their provided mentor and teachers supporting them every step of the way.  Therefore, all students are part of ISWI’s Flex system from Day 1 until Graduation.

ISWI is an alternative high school serving students in grades 9–12 who meet the Wisconsin Statute definition of at-risk. Any student being admitted to ISWI must be either a 5+ year senior OR meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • Credit deficiency — defined by their grade level and the number of credits they have towards our graduation goal 
  • Academically deficient — as evidenced by local or state testing showing the student is at least two years behind their grade-level counterparts
  • Adjudicated delinquent
  • History of truancy
  • Is a parent, or soon to be

ISWI students are matched with an adult engagement mentor from enrollment to graduation. This mentor meets with students regularly and provides support to keep students motivated in their classes, as well as in learning, planning, and growing into their future selves. ISWI teachers provide engaging curriculum and any support students need to succeed in each class; they’re also a listening ear and a source for discovering new opportunities. 

Our staff, students, and families continue to work together for every student’s success. One way to help all those involved with supporting a student is through the student’s Personalized Learning Plan. We will develop this document through both our homeroom model and within each classroom.
